Re: plate solve failure
thanks; I took your advice using service pack 4 and added approximate coordinates of the field in question. They all solve! I was trying blind solving and some of my stars from the hyperstar were too fat!. thanks jacobson

Re: plate solve failure
for the horizontal field I use the numbers derived by your computer. I input the sensor size in mm ie 23, and the focal length of the scope, mostly 900mnm=1.79degrees or 89arcmin. I have tried varying the numbers and have even tried your default 15. No help. I have changed the fov from its default t...

plate solve failure
I have been trying to plate solve with AA7 . this has been a general failure. I can solve your "images" except the one of m57 which will not solve. I have entered a bunch of my fits images and they do not solve at all. I am careful about the ccd width and the focal lengths and still no success. I ha...
Re: ucac 4
thanks for the information cjacobson
ucac 4
I have spent some time at the Naval Observatory web site for a downloadable data base(index). I find lots of peripheral information but not a downloadable large file. Where is this?? Also what are the camera and focal length aspects of your trial files for practice. I could not plate solve them. tha...
Re: gsc1.1
never mind after some struggle it worked. I do not know what goes wrong some times. Btw do I need a second star atlas and which one for general plate solving? Sorry to be a bother. jacobson
Re: gsc1.1
I can not do that as my hard drive and mother board died and have been replaced. I have opened the gsc file in documents and asked aa7 to see it. It does not. I have placed the file in the root of the c drive as well. It did not see it there. by opened i mean I un packed it. What am I doing wrong? t...
gsc1.1
I tried to install my previous gsc data from a zipped file used for AA6. I have dumped this several places. the star preferences module does not recognize it. I unzipped it in a folder called gscdata. I have never had this problem before. What is wrong?? thanks
I have installed AA7.

bias fits vs data fits frames with cmos camera
I have started to use an ASI camera zwo 1071 with a sony chip. I produced bias, flats, darks and image frames. The bias frames are all read out by Pixinsight as an adu of 8000 when they are really 280. PI says this due to the AA6 fits data for the bias were not read out as unsigned. I do not exactly...

Re: focus window and operation
I have resolved this problem with the help of you all and Fabio. I was trying to do this on my own previous images until it was pointed out that I needed to be live. It worked just fine the other night live with a bright star using my refractor at f6 with a bayer matrex narrow band filter( OPT's). I...

Re: focus window and operation
I opened up several images with small stars, placed the square around them in AA6 and AA7. same result no consent square just an oscillation square of white and dark squares in the focus box despite readouts of less than 1. I looked for this little triangle you mentioned next to the readouts. I coul...
