Yes,
The Spectra-L200 has an Edmund achromatic doublet....same focusing issues, but I have the imaging camera mounted on a Borg #7315 helical focuser which can give me repeatability within 10 micron.
I use the Filly argon for calibration outside the Ha neon region.

Re: V1369 Cen 8th Jan 2014
Yes Ken, the choice of the grating is a great dilemma! I don't know if you have (like me) a different focus at UV/center/IR spectral intervals (due to internal doublet). In case, with low-res spectra it would be impossible to have everything correctly focused. On the other hand the use of 1800 l/mm ...

Re: V1369 Cen 8th Jan 2014
Paolo,
Thanks for that!
Good comparison.
I have the choice of dropping back to the 600 l/mm (which is standard in the Spectra-L200) or push up to the 1800 l/mm
Hmmm decisions, decisions, decisions.....
Thanks for that!

Re: V1369 Cen 8th Jan 2014
Very good result Ken! Spectra L-200 works fine with more grooves per mm grating. Profile seems to have a good SNR (I don't see a lot of noise in this spectral interval). Follows a comparison with an early stage Nova Del 2013 spectrum I took on 21 august 2013. There is similarity in h-beta and iron e...

V1369 Cen 8th Jan 2014
Hmmm Now working at R=4040.... Could have done with more exposure time.... The Hb region is the first processed...showing the now "standard P-Cyg" in both the Hb and Fe lines. I've run a velocity graph based on the Hb (4861A) showing the larger absorption is still around the 1700Km/s All spectra acq...

Re: V1369 Cen - Nova Cen 2013
Well done Ken! It is very good to talk about spectroscopy also here! V1369 Cen is a great target like V339 Del has been for many observers around the world. I think your medium resolution spectra are very useful to astronomical community. Although it is the same type of nova (Fe II nova) it seems to...

Re: V1369 Cen - Nova Cen 2013
Before the clouds moved in, I managed to get a spectrum of the Hb Region. You can see how the profiles are changing and showing some secondary absorption features.... This is proving to be a very interesting nova!! Image acquired and pre-processed in AA5 (Thanks Fabio!) and spectral profile from BAS...

Re: V1369 Cen - Nova Cen 2013
Here's some recent medium res spectra of Nova Cen. Spectra-L200 spectroscope with 300 l/mm grating. Imaged using AA5 and ATiK314L. The emission lines of Fe continue to be obvious and some structure coming out in the line profiles. Enjoy! NovaCen_Ha_241213.bass.png NovaCen_Ha_enlarged241213.bass.png ...

Re: V1369 Cen - Nova Cen 2013
Martino, Thanks for the comments. Appreciated. I accept that spectroscopy isn't for everybody, but seriously if you have the equipment (Scope/ camera/ mount) you could be making some very worthwhile contributions to the science of astronomy. There are many freeware (and commercial) packages for the ...

V1369 Cen - Nova Cen 2013
I thought you might like to see what sort of spectral results you can get from a simple grating and a Genesis (4" f5) scope. NovaCen2013.bass.png The imaging camera was an ATiK16icS controlled by AA5. The darks and subs were (eventually! - See my other thread on stacking spectra) pre-processed by AA...

Re: Starting 2014 with spectroscopy
Thank you Ken, effectively worldwide we use almost the same tools! This experience was made with a high resolution spectrograph but I think is very important to know that a plenty of interesting observations (and related studies) can be also performed with a simple grating like the Star Analyser 100...
