Hi,
With my modest equipment I'm never going to see objects beyond a magnitude of 16 so the USCSA2 catalogue would be fine. However whilst searching for a data source to download it I find this http://www.usno.navy.mil/USNO/astrometr ... talog-info which suggests it isn't the right choice anymore.
Can someone please point me to the best online source for obtaining the Star Catalogue and advise whether this has been superseded?
Where is the best online source for StarAtlas Catalogues?

Ivor,
The page linked to your USNO post is somewhat out of date and refers up to UCAC2. The UCAC4 catalog is the latest and is what I use. AA reads this catalog without conversion.
http://www.usno.navy.mil/USNO/astrometr ... -prod/ucac
Here is one FTP link to the binary files.
ftp://cdsarc.u-strasbg.fr/pub/more/UCAC4/
Regards,
Bill
