I am correct in believing that I can use the microtouch system for focusing via AA6. I guess focus max is not currently compatible with AA6. Is that correct?

Correct. Microtouch is an ASCOM compatible focuser, I never tried it, but all ASCOM focusers until now worked correctly. Focusmax is a software, not supported.
Autofocus is integrated in the Focus Window of Astroart, it works very well, just remember to set the appropriate "Step" the first time you use it.

I did use Microtouch via ASCOM in AA a few years ago. It worked very well. I am just too lazy to connect it to my new Setup, as Manual focussing with a Bahtinov mask works very well and quickly.
