Improved stacking / copy missing borders approach wanted

Post by Forum_2014 »

Hello,

I have sets of images where the object to center moves around quite a lot. I would like to see astroart use all of the image area from all of the images when stacking, instead of cutting of parts. The regions with less than maximum coverage should then be scaled in inverse proportion to their coverage, so that we get uniform brightness values. Of course the regions with little coverage will have more noise, but at least they are not lost.

I have put artificial samples and the desired results on this page:

Best regards,
Municher

Did you make further tests? Also with your sample image?

The "copy missing border" option in Preprocessing (OK, the name it's not ideal) works just as you described, it uses the samples it can get, scale them in inverse proportion, and may enhance noise a bit. Didn't it work with your synthetic image?

No, that option seems to do something else or appears completely broken for this purpose.
When i activate it i see some small effects on the edges of the stacked image but also some artifacts there which are clearly wrong.

I have posted another example here:

Thanks, I was able to reproduce it.
It will be fixed in Service Pack 2, available in July.
