AA9 now solves the polar field with high reliability!
I start my mounts in the home position (aiming north), turn on tracking and then do an image of the polar field which now solves every time, and the mount now places most targets in the central portion of the camera field after the first goto!
I still do a 2nd plate solve for perfect centring but it's nice to have visual confirmation of the target after the first goto.
