Star Atlas query

Post by AndrewP » 08 Jan 2023, 02:30

Hi Fabio

First off, I'd just like to say that AstroArt is an amazing piece of software and just gets better with every SP release. I have a query on the automatic reference stars Star Atlas option. There is a box titled "Astrometry". Could you advise what that is for and when should it be used.

Regards

Hi, the new option "Astrometry" selects the best stars with a different algorithm: instead of selecting the highest S/N it tries an uniform coverage of the image, which is useful for mapping optical distortions. However this is imporant only when less the 50 stars are used: try for example with 20 stars and you'll see that they are better placed in all zones of the image.
For 500 stars the option "Astrometry" will probably not make a difference.
